 MCI screening test was introduced to test the knowledge of a doctor who has graduated from a foreign university. There are three papers of multiple choice questions in Pre-Clinical, ParaClinical, and Clinical Medicine and its allied subjects including Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The language of the test shall be English. The test for each paper will be of three hours duration. The criteria to pass the exam is to score 50% on each paper.

 As of now, there is no restriction to a number of attempts for this exam. If a doctor has studied MBBS at a good university abroad and has good knowledge about his craft, then scoring 50% on this test is possible on the first attempt as well. It can be challenging but not impossible. If not in the first attempt, then subsequent attempts should do the trick.

 Now the Health Ministry of the Indian Medical Council are in the process of implementing an exit exam known as NEXT (National Exit Test) which will be a common licensure exam for all medical graduates be it from India or abroad. License for practice in India will be provided only if they clear this exam.

Myth: It is expensive to study MBBS abroad.

Fact:

If an Indian student intends to study MBBS in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, this statement is true. It is difficult to pursue MBBS in these nations because students are not admitted to medical schools immediately after completing their 12th grade. They must first complete a nearly three-year pre-med program. To gain admission to a medical program, individuals must first take an entrance exam, such as the MCAT in the United States. It is a lengthy, time-consuming, and expensive affair.
Indian students, as well as many European students, travel to nations such as Russia, Ukraine, the Philippines, and China to study medicine. MBBS in countries like Russia is affordable because Indian students can study at government medical universities, which are funded by the government. Tuition fees for MBBS in Russia might start at Rs. 2,00,000 per year.

Important points to remember

Studying MBBS in Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, the Philippines, or China is a viable answer to the current predicament in India. However, it is critical to choose only reputable universities in these countries to ensure you receive a great education in English.
