What's new in the PTE?

The core PTE format hasn't changed in years. What has changed is how it's delivered and marked: a mandatory black pen for paper tests, stricter Writing checks, and a growing shift to computer-delivered testing.

Pearson says results are typically available within 48 hours, with a digital Score Report and Skills Profile.

10-90 Score Scale

PTE Academic reports an overall score from 10 to 90 plus individual communicative skill scores aligned to the Global Scale of English.

The takeaway

The PTE format is stable, but the margin for generic answers and memorised writing has gotten smaller.

Because examiners are now trained to spot templated writing, and results move faster on computer-delivered tests, your prep should build genuine, flexible responses rather than memorised structures and decide early whether you'll test on paper or on computer.
